“Let’s slate this next week” means, to me, to schedule something for next week. The connotation is completely different in British English, were it means to criticize severely. Heheh.
The OED says:
verb 1 cover (a roof) with slates. 2 Brit. informal criticize severely. 3 chiefly N. Amer. schedule; plan.
